Footprints in the Snow
The snow lasted about 48 hrs and overnight temps fell too -7C according to my trail cams. Here is a shot of the sun coming up in our garden before the snow melted.
When it snows it is a good time to look for footprints.
Nothing exciting this time - rabbits, squirrels, and birds but its always worth a look. There are so many rabbits here that the field is a network of rabbit tracks obliterating everything else. It certainly doesn't look like ir round here but apparently rabbit populations Nationally are declining to the extent that some people are suggesting "rabbit hotels" see this Guardian newspaper article this week Rabbit Hotels
The best references I have found for tracks and signs are this Scandanavian book and a small leaflet by the Field Studies Council.
Diary
Some very noisy tawny owls last night. Trail cams showed a plethora of wood mice and a red fox. Still a lot of field fares about.
