Winter Aconite
I saw the very first of the spring flowers this week. The Winter Aconite is a flower native to France and the near continent and the Balkans but is common enough as an introduced plant to be counted as a wildflower.
All parts of this plant (which is a member of the buttercup family) are poisonous. The plant can cause serious and permanent heart damage should you ingest it. We have a couple of clumps of this around the garden - it apparently does well in calcarious soils.
Dairy
A glorious frosty morning today. We have seen a stoat in the garden and there has been a lot of squirrel activity at the feeders around the house. There was a big flock of wood pigeon in the field across the road and we have started to see the common gulls about again. I caught a glimpse of a dipper on the stream. I have been playing with the settings on my trail cameras so as to obtain a still photograph as well as a video. I detected fox and roe deer on last nights cameras.
