A Visit to Tarn Sike Nature Reserve

Regular readers will know that I volunteer to look after a little wildlife reserve belonging to Cumbria Wildlife Trust some 10 miles from  here at Tarn Sike

Yesterday was one of my regular visits. The flowers are past their best. There are mostly grass of parnassus and devil's bit scabious in evidence now. I was pleased to see that a working party has removed most of the invasive michaelmas daisy plants that were becoming a problem - a job for apprentices from the National Park rather than an old man like me! I noted dozens of dragonfly - hard to identify but this were common darter I think.

There was a flock of over 100 goldfinch feeding on the seed heads.

A variety of other birds including heron and raven. Also this meadow pipit who posed for me.

Diary.
Last nights camera traps were a disappointment. Rabbits - trees moving in the wind - and a foxes backside! There has been a real change in the weather (often the case at the equinox I think) and daytime temps at the moment are around 13C. It's windy but there is no appreciable amount of rain and the ground its still very dry.
