Grass of Parnassus

This is a very posh name for a little white flower that makes its appearance at this time of the year. This flower likes wet areas and apparently grew on the slopes of Mount Parnassus in Greece where it was so favoured by the local cattle that it was bestowed with the title of "grass" even though it isn't a grass. This is what happens when classically trained Victorians get to name flowers. I am giving it prominence here because it is the adopted County flower of the County of Cumbria where we live and even appears on the county flag.

I returned to Waitby Greenriggs reserve today in an attempt to find the rare Scotch Argus butterfly today but failed!

Diary.
A tawny owl has taken to roosting during the day on the same branch of a Scots Pine tree next to the orchard. Camera traps have produce roe deer, badger and fox in the last two days. Last night's moth trap bit disappointing - a mere 12 specimens and nothing out of the ordinary - disappointing when you have opened the trap with your grandchildren who have been promised that it will be very exciting!
