Thistles and Numbers
I have been looking a bit more closely at plants this year and I was surprised to find out how many different British Thistles there are. I have already featured the melancholy thistle and knapweed. Today I offer you the spear thistle.
And a very different looking one that I think is a welted thistle.
This is obviously a specialist area. The following link might be more informative than I can be. Thistles

Numbers - This is blog number 150 since I started! I intended to carry on until the end of Covid restrictions when I started and these end on Monday. I think for my own amusement I will carry on and try and do a full year but possibly less frequent posts. Thanks for those who look at it.
More Numbers - A video that I first posted here on 18th June about a family of young stoats I then posted to Cumbria Wildlife Facebook page and it has gone viral with over 41,000 views so far! You saw it here first! Last night's camera traps showed ten clips of foxes ( three separate individuals I reckon). I also recorded a loud clip of the contact call of Tawney owl chicks. I suspect that the owlet was perched on the very post that I had attached the camera to so I have no video to go with it. I will try posting a camera to look at the post that the other camera is on tonight!
Moth trap. Well over 100 moths. Orange underwing the most numerous but some nice hawkmoth too. These two were new to me. The "light emerald moth"
