Buttercups

The "unimproved" fields are now starting to show the wildflowers. This is a shot from yesterday of a field on the slopes of Ash Fell which has a particularly fine crop of buttercups.

There are three main types of buttercup in this part of the world. The differences are subtle and are better explained by this link than by me.
It seems that it is quite possible to have all three types in the same field and in bloom at the same time because that is what I saw when I checked out our bottom field today.

Diary
It was about 17C yesterday but overcast - it looks more promising today. Last nights moth trap produced about 20 moths of about 6 different species. The most exciting of my catch were the "poplar hawk moths" which are about the largest we get here.

I reckon this individual is a male because of the reddish colours.
