Bird's eye primrose
I visited Tarn Sike reserve today and was delighted to see that the bird's eye primrose was in bloom. This delicate little relative of the cowslip is found in Northern Britain in areas that are both wet and have a calcarious substrate. The limestone hereabouts is perfect for them. These plants are locally scarce and are becoming more scarce as they lose habitat.
Here for comparison is the bigger brasher relative the cowslip.
Diary
Day time temps today peaked at 10C about 7 degrees below the seasonal norm. I saw couple of roe deer last evening in the field to the North of the house. The local stoat showed herself twice today in the garden. Overnight trail cams gave another good shot of a fox. We have had just three red squirrel at a time in the garden. At Tarn Sike today I had an opportunity to photograph some hare and I am posting them here because my last post on hares had such poor photographs so maybe this makes up for it.
