Butterburr

This morning I noticed that the butterburs that grows in and around our small stream (Sandwath Sike)  had started to appear. When fully grown this has large parasol shaped leaves (like rhubarb) which used to be used to wrap slabs of butter (the leaves did not taint the butter) hence the name.

We had a lot of sparrowhawk activity again yesterday two failed attacks on the blue tits. On reviewing trail cam footage from a few days ago I realised I had missed this clip of an owl pouncing on something in the pond (newts?).

There are still large numbers of gulls on the fields during the day. A change of wind direction has caused temperatures to plummet today. 17C yesterday with a max  of 7C today!

  1. Not even trilliums are out yet here in the Pacific Northwest. I have the truck packed for a long road trip to Texas, then. northert to the Dakotas. Combination of AirBNB's and sleeping in the back of the truck.
