There was enough going on today to talk about without picking an individual topic!
It has turned wintery again. We had hail showers yesterday and there was a covering of snow on the hills when we woke up this morning. It was great to get several visits from the female sparrowhawk again today. We saw her about half a dozen times during the day and witnessed on successful kill of a blue tit. I was lucky to catch her diving off her perch in the middle of a hail storm.
Having written about rabbits recently I was sad to see one badly affected by myxomatosis. The disease affects the eyes which swell up effectively blinding the animal. The population will fall off a bit as the disease goes through the rabbit population before numbers build up again.
I had three trail cam clips that are worth a look. The first one is a close up look at a buzzard that was pecking at a rabbit carcass in. front of the camera.
The next one is from our pond showing a heron at work on the frogspawn in the dark. I thought a heron would have been tucked up in bed by now but apparently not. There was a good moon (waxing gibbous) so perhaps that made the difference?
And lastly what about this for a fly past?
Every time I visit our bog meadow I see a pair of mallard ducks. I have searched for a nest but not found one - but there will be one there somewhere- I will keep searching!
