Roe Deer

Still plenty of snow about here.

I am posting a drone shot of the house and the surrounding countryside.

It was minus 6
degrees C this morning.

My camera traps last night caught some roe deer. I saw at least 7 of them from my window last week but they are usually in family groups of a buck and a doe with a youngster if there is one. They are animals of the woodland margins. I see them grazing in the fields early in the morning and late in the evening and they hide themselves away in the many stands of trees and scrub during the day.

A Bit of bird news to finish. I was delighted to see a woodcock on the morning dog walk. Not on our land but on the old railway line on the way to Smardale. These are winter visitors from Scandinavia that look like a large snipe. I only see them two or three times a year usually and have never managed a photograph as they are so well camouflaged that you only see them when you flush them and it all happens too quickly.
